Dear Friend,
In December of 2023, YBGR expanded its efforts to support youth in crisis with the opening of Fortin East Lodge for more kids to receive much needed treatment and care at the Ranch. This opened up 10 more spots. With increased capacity, parents are able get their child into a facility close to home and not have to look out of state where they might not be able to visit. Beth faced challenges stemming from her parents' early death and a turbulent upbringing in foster care. Struggling to form connections, she felt unworthy of love. However, moving in with her aunt Donna marked a turning point. Donna's consistent support, including therapy sessions and personal care, helped Beth rebuild trust. Volleyball concluded this month at YBGR. Initially, tryouts saw 33 girls vying for spots, with 18 securing a place on the team. Despite a 3-6 record, each loss was fiercely contested, often extending to a decisive third game. Throughout the season, we observed positive transformations, including a decline in negative behaviors and significant advancements in essential skills like ball passing and serving. Another noteworthy achievement was the consistent surpassing of their own expectations, unveiling the hidden potential within each player. Notable highlights included providing jerseys for youths who had never been part of a team before, witnessing personal growth, such as a habitual quitter becoming a team leader, and overcoming challenges like a player's self-doubt leading to a game-winning ace.
Huge thanks to the Lutheran Love Room Quilters-Serenity, Taizah, and Sandra from Scobey, MT-for delivering seven bags of cozy quilts to Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch for youth in the residential treatment program. Yellowstone Foundation staffer Kristi Farver Oaks then took the young ladies and their advisor Connie Wittak on a tour of the Ranch.
Respectfully,
Bill Hritsco, President
